What is a fat bomb? Well, these keto snacks are kinda similar to energy balls but instead of being full of carbs, they are high in fats (85% fat content) and low in carbs. See that? High fats, low carbs!

Being called a ‘fat bomb’, you’re probably visualizing an explosion with fat (I certainly did, lol). Kinda…. Fat bombs create an amped up supply of healthy fat; think about an explosion that sends a whole lot of fats into your body system.

The body burns these fats in place of carbohydrates, keeping you energized and less hungry and craving for a longer period. See? Find out more about Keto Fat Bombs from The Keto Summit.

KETO FAT BOMB RECIPE BASICS

It is super easy to make your own fat bomb, in a relatively short time! In fact, your keto fat bombs recipe is simply made up of four main components: a healthy fat base, a binder, low carb flavoring, and texture.

Healthy fat base – This is what will become the solid base of the fat bomb when it is refrigerated and help stay solid at room temperature. The common fat bases include Coconut oil, Butter and Cream cheese. Other fat bases include nut butters, avocado, ghee, cream and cacao butter.

Low-carb flavoring— e.g. cacao powder, vanilla extract, salt or spices.

Binder – as a binder, you can choose a coconut flour, nut flour, or coconut flakes.

Texture – you can add texture, using things like raw chopped nuts, seeds, shredded coconut etc.

Some Ketogenic Fat Bomb recipes exclude the binders. You might want to include binders in yours, or not; it’s your choice! Just mix and match your favourite combination and you are good to go.

So now that we have got the Fat Bomb Recipe basics, get your 5 ingredients, come back and let me show you…….

HOW TO STORE FAT BOMBS

You’re probably not just going to make just one snack while you’re at it. So it’s definitely a good idea for you to store your fat bombs properly to retain their freshness and overall yummy-ness.

The fat in fat bombs is liquid at room temperature, so best to keep them in the fridge in an airtight container. Stored this way, they can last up to two weeks. You could freeze them but that might make biting into them a little more interesting.

WHAT IS THE KETO DIET?

For those of you who don’t know, the keto diet is a diet that promotes high fat, low carb eating. Most of your daily calories (about 70-80 %) come from fat, 15 % to 20 % are protein and just the remainder, about 5 %, comes from carbohydrates.

The idea is that by reducing carbs and increasing fat, the body enters a state of ketosis which results in benefits (including fat burning). So, if you want to burn down some fat, then this may be the way to go. There are a few other benefits of keto diet such as improving metabolism, and memory. Keto diet also stabilizes sugar levels and keeps a better insulin sensitivity level.

KETO SWEETENERS

Although they don’t contain sugar, keto fat bombs are mostly sweet. This is because they are made with a range of substitutes that can give you that sweet-ish feeling and still keep it real low on sugar. Although some people actually prefer to have them tasting savory using avocado and bacon flavoring, to mention just a few.

Now we’re interested in sweeteners, cos I like them sweet, and I bet you’ll do. So let’s check out what sweetener we can use, shall we?

There is a good number of natural and artificial sugar-free sweeteners available for you depending on your preference. The natural ones include: Xylitol, Stevia, Erythritol, Swerve (Erythritol + Oligosaccharides) and Natvia (Stevia + Erythritol). Artificial ones include: Maltitol, Sucralose and Aspartame.

If you do want to add a little bit of extra wetness to this Chocolate Coconut Oil Fat Bomb, then please do use powdered erythritol. Erythritol is the sugar alcohol that has the lowest effect on blood sugar, with just 0.2 calories and zero carbs. But you can choose whichever sweetener that suits your taste.

WHY ARE FAT BOMBS JUST GOOD FOR YOU?

Just in case you find yourself wondering why fat bomb is the bomb, I’ve got some really fascinating reasons that will certainly interest you.

  • Keto fat bombs inject a good amount of fat into your systems. These fats are essential for absorption of Vitamins A, D, E and K.
  • Maybe you’re diabetic, or simply on the lookout for your sugar level, keto fat bombs give you the leeway to satisfy that sweet-tooth of yours without affecting your sugar levels!
